ETHAN SALO

HOD Music

Ethan was originally a student at M&M Music Academy in 2010.  Following his MMMA studies, he further studied music, majoring in drums at the Campus of Performing Arts. Here he completed his diploma in contemporary music performance.

He then went on to obtain a BA Honours in Jazz Performance through the University of Cape Town.

Ethan is a member of the M&M team of music and performing arts teachers in the role of HOD Music

 

MICHELLE QUEEN

HOD Performing Arts/Dance

Michelle is a creative director, entrepreneur & teacher who is passionate about inspiring, motivating & nurturing talent to reach their full creative potential through imaginative work.

After working as a professional dancer with the likes of Rihanna, Ed Sheeran & Shakira she progressed into Choreography, Creative Direction, & Stage Management for high profile events around the world. Work highlights include choreography for Jaguar, based on the songbook of ‘Queen’ featuring 16 dancers, singers & a full band, West End hit show ‘Revolution’ at The Haymarket Theatre, starring Kimberly Wyatt & Adam Garcia & Ed Sheeran’s music video ‘You Need Me, I Don’t Need You’.

Michelle also worked with specialist agencies creating work with models, fire performers & aerialists, devising large scale performance projects for Monaco Grand Prix, Masters Of Dirt Freestyle Show (featuring Freestyle Motocross, BMX, Quad Bikes, Fire, & Pyrotechnics) at Dubai Trade Centre & Cannes Film Festival.

MONIQUE ORANGE

HOD Performing Arts/Musical Theatre

Monique started singing at the age of 5 and had her first performance at the age of 6. From singing in the Tygerberg’s Children’s Choir and participating in Eisteddfods in her school years she then completed her LTCL Musical Theatre teachers diploma, Drama performers, musical theatre performance, gold jazz, Advanced 1 tap, hip hop &Tv presentation at the Waterfront Theatre college. She also obtained her Grade 8 in Vocals through Rock School UK and NQF 5 assessors.

From performing in the musical West side story and having a one-man Whitney Houston tribute show, the passion to perform and teach was a must. She started teaching from 2011.

Monique is a member of the M&M team of music and performing arts teachers in the role of HOD of Performing Arts/Musical Theatre

JORDAN BAILLIFF

M&M FULL-TIME COLLEGE BALLET TEACHER

Born in London, England, Jordan started his training at an early age in classical ballet and contemporary dance.

He fast-tracked into the Royal Ballet junior school and then studied at the Royal Ballet School, central school of ballet, London studio centre and what is now known as the Brit school.  As a professional dancer, he worked and toured with Ballet Ireland, European ballet, Central ballet Company, LDA in the United States, and Magic Life.

The M&M music and performing arts teachers team is bolstered by having Jordan as a full-time ballet teacher.

Nuske George

M&M FULL-TIME COLLEGE CONTEMPORARY TEACHER

I have the utmost respect & passion for my craft & even more so for the youth interested in the industry. I believe that what we nurture & mold, becomes gold.

I graduated from UCT with my BMus Dance degree. I’m also a certified Cecchetti ballet teacher, Contemporary & Hip-hop teacher.

Performance credits include Miley Cyrus backup dancer for TV series “Black Mirror”, cruise line dancer. Spartacus of Africa with international dancers & choreographers, Born Frees with Marlin Zoutman & Celeste Botha & Lenny with international choreographers.

DUANE LAWRENCE

M&M HIP HOP DANCE TEACHER

Meet Duane Lawrence, a world-travelled individual who has harnessed the power of Hip Hop dance & music to spread positivity throughout the industry. With unyielding passion, he utilizes his teaching platform to drive the progression of dance across the globe.

Duane’s exceptional abilities as a Hip Hop coach have earned him Western Province colors, a testament to his dedication and expertise. His teams have triumphed in world championships, solidifying his status as a trailblazer in the field.

In addition to his coaching accomplishments, Duane is an integral part of the renowned crew Ubuntu BBoys. As a collective, they have clinched world breakdance championships, serving as a true embodiment of the essence of Ubuntu. With their philosophy of “I am me because of you,” they exude the spirit of togetherness and unity.  

Duane is a member of the M&M team of music and performing arts teachers as a hip hop dance teacher.

CARLI STADLER

M&M PART-TIME COLLEGE BALLET TEACHER

Carli Stadler has been dancing since the age of 3 years old. She has her dance teaching degrees through the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD Ballet) and the Association of International Dance Teachers (AIDT Modern).

Carli has completed all her exams in both the RAD and AIDT syllabi. She also has experience with Eisteddfods and competitions. She has an absolute passion for dance and teaching.

Carli is a member of the M&M team of music and performing arts teachers as a part-time college ballet teacher.

CHARLENE SAUERMAN-FAURIE

M&M PIANO TEACHER

Charlene runs the Costume Design and Training department at M&M. She completed her 3 year course in Fashion Design, landing best overall student trophy in 1987 at CPUT and has been specializing in bridal and stage couture for over 25 years. A career highlight for her was making a performance dress for diva Celine Dion.

She also teaches piano and music theory in both our full time and part time college.

Charlene joined M&M in 2013 and has experienced our growth from Music College to a full blown Performing Arts institution. Pioneering full time Costume Design and part time Garment Technology came as a natural outflow to enhance the college’s offering to the aspiring creative who would love to follow a non-performance pathway in the industry.

HELEN SAUERMAN

M&M VOCAL TEACHER

Helen Sauerman is a passionate vocal coach & music educator at M&M Music Academy who is skilled in the art of choral singing, a cappella & vocal arranging. She conducts the choir & directs the a cappella group at M&M whilst teaching vocals, piano, theory & other music subjects. During her high school career, she was a member of the world-renowned Stellenberg Girls Choir (under the direction of Andre van der Merwe) and took part in local as well as international choir competitions throughout the years 2012-2016. In 2017, Helen started teaching part-time at the age of 19, and in 2019 she obtained her Rock School Grade 8 in Popular Vocals (with distinction) through M&M Music Academy, as well as Grade 5 in Trinity College of London Theory of Music. 
 
It was also through M&M that she developed experience as a solo performer & session backing vocalist (on the stage and in the studio) from the age of 16 years old. One of Helen’s latest milestones was to be able to travel to Los Angeles, California in July 2022 in order to learn from some of the industry’s top a cappella directors, arrangers & educators at ‘A cappella Academy’ (including Avi Kaplan, Rob Dietz & Ben Bram). Helen’s ear & creativity with vocal harmony has led her to arrange for various scholastic & collegiate level groups, as well as solo artists. Some of her latest work in vocal coaching & arranging can be seen in the work of up-and-coming local artists such as Mage Troskie (‘Vir Nou Net Mage’) & Liam Burger.

STEFAN LOUW

M&M GUITAR TEACHER

Stefan started playing guitar after he turned 13. Since then he has been a student of the instrument and has helped many others on their journey with the guitar. He does this by imparting skills he has learnt through years of playing in bands and recording as a session guitarist in a variety of genres.

Stefan has completed Gr8 in RSL, Gr6 in Trinity theory and is currently working on completing his Level 4 teaching diploma.

He is a member of the M&M team of music and performing arts teachers as a guitar teacher.

JON LOMBANA

M&M DRUM TEACHER

Born in Venezuela, Jon grew up playing drums and Latin percussion. He graduated at the Nexus Institute of Creative Arts in the UK and completed his Grade 8 Certificate and L4 Teaching Diploma through RSL.

He has over 20 years of playing experience (live and studio) and over 10 years of teaching. His online influence includes 45,000 subscribers on YouTube and 5 million views, which helped to grant him international endorsements with drum and cymbal companies.

Jon is a member of the M&M team of music and performing arts teachers as a drum teacher.

CALVIN DAVIS

M&M DRUM TEACHER

Calvin was fortunate enough to grow up in Singapore, where he experienced an education that led him to discover his passion for music and the world of arts/ culture.

His previous highlights started at Legacy School of Music and School of Rock. During his time there he achieved his Grade 8 Rock School and was appointed assistant music director, finally leading him to M&M.

His styles of playing are – linear progressive rock and punk-pop fusion.

Calvin is a member of the M&M team of music and performing arts teachers as a drum teacher.

DAVID JONES

M&M DRUM TEACHER

David started playing drums at the age of 10. Since then, he has studied under some of Cape Town’s top drummers in the genres of Jazz, Rock and Classical, with a few years as a percussionist in the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. David holds a Diploma in Music from Stellenbosch University and has obtained his Grade 8 drumming through Trinity College London.

Since playing professionally, David has played on studio sessions for some local artists, as well as various festivals and events around Cape Town. He has been involved in live and studio recordings for some local churches as a drummer, arranger and musical director respectively.

David is a member of the M&M team of music and performing arts teachers as drum teacher.

LEE SMITH

M&M VIOLIN TEACHER

Lee is a passionate educator of all ages in violin and viola. Her attention to detail, as well as her patience, make her a sought-after teacher.

She has been teaching violin since 2011 with excellent result and she obtained her BMus in education in 2013. This talented violinist has performed in numerous concerts, from orchestras to Rock and Pop, church bands and more.

Lee is a member of the M&M team of music and performing arts teachers as a violin teacher.

CUEN NICHOLSON

M&M MUSIC PRODUCTION TEACHER

With a diploma in sound engineering, Cuen has worked in one of Cape Town’s top studios doing foley work and recording some of the country’s best upcoming bands in Rock and Roll and Blues. He has experience in everything – from live sound to sound-in picture work – giving him a trained ear and a vast knowledge of everything sound-related.

Cuen is a member of the M&M team of music and performing arts teachers as a music production teacher.
